Fiery crash closes eastbound I-465 in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana State Police say a fiery crash has halted eastbound traffic on Interstate 465 on Indianapolis' north side, snarling rush-hour traffic on the heavily traveled highway.

Police estimate I-465's eastbound lanes will remain closed at the Keystone Avenue exit until after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday due to crash debris from the three-vehicle crash.

The gas tank of a truck burst into flames in the 2 p.m. crash, creating a large fireball.

Police say one person received non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Sgt. Anthony D. Emery says traffic is being diverted onto Keystone Avenue while repairs are made to the eastbound lanes of the highway.

The far left lane of I-465 westbound is closed at the same location for emergency crews.
