Colts announce signing of Matt Hasselbeck

INDIANAPOLIS —

The Indianapolis Colts announced Tuesday they have signed former Tennessee Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck.

Hasselbeck, 37, played in eight games for the Titans last season. He started five when Jake Locker was injured, and finished with 1,367 yards passing, seven touchdowns and five interceptions. His passer rating was 81.0.

The Colts announced Hasselbeck's signing Tuesday morning, with "details coming soon!"

Colts owner Jim Irsay had cryptically referred to the earlier reports on Twitter, saying "Shifting gears....insurance policies are VERY valuable...makes your pillow softer at night......"

Reports are Hasselbeck would sign a two-year deal to take the No.2 spot behind starter Andrew Luck, keeping second-year quarterback Chandler Harnish in the No.3 slot. Hasselbeck started his career with the Green Bay Packers, but spent most of his peak years with the Seattle Seahawks from 2001 to 2010. He has 34,517 yards, 201 touchdowns and 147 interceptions in his career.

In other Colts news, Indianapolis was awarded a compensatory draft pick for the loss of free agents and will have pick No.254 in the seventh round, the final pick. So "Mr. Irrelevant" will go to the Colts again this season. Harnish, the former Norwell standout, was selected with the 253rd and last pick last year.
