WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A Purdue University graduate is starring in a truly out-of-this-world IMAX movie filmed in Earth orbit during a daring space shuttle mission.
NASA astronaut Andrew Feustel (FOY'-stuhl) appears in "Hubble 3D," which was filmed last May during NASA's final mission to capture and repair the Hubble Space Telescope.
The film opens Friday at the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis and runs through May.
The 44-year-old Feustel, who holds two Purdue degrees, is one of 22 Purdue alumni who have been chosen to date for space flight.
During the 13-day mission, he completed three of the mission's five spacewalks, repairing or replacing various instruments on the orbiting observatory.
The upgrades performed during the mission improved Hubble's observing capabilities and extended its life for at least another five years of research.
