Rokita: Voter ID will apply to special elections

Appeals court ruling overturning Voter ID is not final

INDIANAPOLIS — Secretary of State Todd Rokita says Indiana residents voting in upcoming special elections will still be subject to the state's Voter ID law despite a recent court ruling.

Rokita says the Indiana Court of Appeals' recent ruling overturning the Voter ID law is not final and will have no impact on the law's enforcement.

That means voters must bring an Indiana state or U.S. government-issued photo ID to the polls this month.

Ten counties are required to conduct special elections on Tuesday. Those counties are: Dubois, Franklin, Lake, LaPorte, Marion, Perry, Porter, Ripley, St. Joseph and Wells.

Hamilton County will conduct a special election Nov. 10 in some precincts.

Lake and LaPorte counties won't hold special elections this month because officials in those counties say they don't have the money to conduct them.
