ANDERSON — Some people drank too much. Some fired guns when the clock struck midnight. Some greeted 2010 from jail.
But Anderson police said New Year’s Eve 2009 was as close to a silent night as they could hope for.
On Friday, APD Sgt. Shawn Richwine said officers and supervisors who worked the overnight shift on New Year’s Eve were relieved to have few arrests and no major crashes or crimes to cover.
“They said in comparison (to past years), it was dead last night,” Richwine said.
But that’s not to say there weren’t arrests on New Year’s Eve and after the last cork popped.
Here is a summary of alcohol-related arrests compiled from records at the Madison County Jail:
-- Five people were arrested and charged with drunken driving. One arrest was made by Anderson police; three by Indiana State Police in Anderson; and one by Elwood police.
-- Ten people were arrested on charges of public intoxication.
-- At least two minors were charged with alcohol-related misdemeanors.
