LAPEL, Ind. — An apparent head-on collision on Indiana 32 near Main Street in Lapel Friday afternoon sent two people to area hospitals with injuries.

The female driver of a Dodge Neon was transported to the Lapel High School parking lot, where she was taken via helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in fair condition. The accident occurred about 4:30 p.m., well after school hours.

“She was drifting in and out of consciousness, so we felt that was the best thing to do,” Lapel fire investigator Dennis Everitt said.

The driver of the other vehicle, a Toyota Tundra, was transported to Saint John’s Medical Center, also in fair condition.

One lane of Indiana 32 was closed briefly while police and fire officials cleared the accident scene. Also assisting were members of the Lapel police and fire departments and the Indiana State Police and Madison County Sheriff’s Department.
