Student group urges campus-wide strike at IU

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A group of Indiana University students is calling for an all-campus strike in April to protest state funding cuts, IU's management of programs and other issues.

Student Power IU has been meeting to discuss concerns and is urging a strike during the April 11-12 trustees' meeting in Bloomington.

Student Nick Greven tells The Herald-Times the university community needs to make it clear to state lawmakers that IU can't sustain itself as a high-quality institution as state funding for universities declines.

Student Power's blog says the proposed strike is a response to rising tuition, racism on campus and "attacks on working conditions" for IU staff and faculty.

IU spokesman Mark Land says the university is aware of the group's meetings but declined further comment.
