GTI to open Friday amid ceremony

Gov. Pence, Anderson Mayor Smith to be present

ANDERSON, Ind. — Newly-inaugurated governor Mike Pence will speak at a ribbon cutting ceremony in Anderson’s Flagship Enterprise Center business park Friday.

In July, major Honda plastic components manufacturer Greenville Technology, Inc. said it would open a new 150,000 square-foot parts manufacturing facility in the business park. GTI announced it expected to bring 325 jobs to Anderson.

The itinerary for Friday’s public event includes a ribbon cutting ceremony and remarks from Pence, GTI president Sho Kurita, general manager Jon Adams, Anderson Mayor Kevin Smith, Honda Manufacturing of Indiana Vice President Bob Nelson and others.

The facility has been actively producing parts for two vehicles — the Honda Civic and the Acura ILX — for the past two weeks, said general manager Jon Adams.

It currently produces 12 parts for those vehicles such as glove boxes, center consoles and aesthetic parts for car grills.

Adams said the number of parts would likely be closer to 100 by the end of the year, and it could expand to include other vehicles soon.

“We’re in our infancy,” he said. “But we have a very strategic ramp-up plan.”
