INDIANAPOLIS — A man who pleaded guilty to being part of a ring that smuggled cocaine from Mexico to Indianapolis has been sentenced to more than 16 years in prison.
Twenty-four-year-old Danny Delgado of Juarez, Mexico, will be deported when he completes his 200-month term in federal prison.
Federal prosecutors say the ring smuggled cocaine across the border from Ciudad Juarez to El Paso, Texas. Delgado then arranged for truck drivers to haul the drugs to Indianapolis, from where it then was delivered to customers in Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Akron, Ohio.
The operation allegedly transported more than 100 pounds of cocaine a week from Mexico to Indianapolis from late 2006 to August 2007.
Delgado was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Indianapolis.
