Reports from the Madison County Health Department are based on recent inspections of restaurants and other places that serve food. A critical violation is one that could significantly contribute to contamination, illness or environmental hazard. A non-critical violation is a minor violation, unlikely to contribute to contamination, illness or environmental hazard. Potentially hazardous food is food that needs to be kept below 31 degrees or above 135 degrees. Restaurants may have corrected violations between the time of the inspection and publication of this report. All reports are from routine bi-annual inspections, unless otherwise indicated.

Note: Food and service items (cups, lids, etc.) must be stored at least six inches above the floor.

Tenth Street Elementary School, 3124 E. Tenth St., Anderson — Jan. 5, 2010

Complaint filed 01-04-10: Cold spaghetti, hot dogs and corndogs; moldy bread. January fifth inspection revealed none of the above violations. Lasagna was at 175 degrees; and no bread was moldy.

Vermillion Place, 449 Main St., Anderson - Jan. 5

Critical violation: Large pieces of meat were being cooled, wrapped in plastic. Internal temperature at 94 to 97 degrees after three hours.

Non-critical violation: Wiping cloths not being stored in sanitizing solution between uses.

Non-critical violations: 1) Thermometer not provided in reach in cooler next to the grill. 2) No shield on light in walk in meat cooler. 3) Boxes of bread stored directly on floor in walk in freezer. 4) Soda gun at bar found soiled.

China Buffet, 1408 W. Ind. 28, Elwood - Jan. 12

Critical violations: 1) (*) Cooked chicken stored by the wok area at 57 to 51 degrees. 2) Food items on bars not reaching required temperatures (potatoes 122 degrees/fried shrimp at 125 degrees). 3) Raw meats found stored above other items.

Non-critical violations: 1) Pan of chicken stored on top of another. 2) Chicken being thawed at room temperature. 3) Clothing stored with food preparation equipment.
