INDIANAPOLIS —
St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital recently earned verification as a trauma center by the American College of Surgeons.
To ensure verification, St. Vincent renovated space for trauma/surgical and neuroscience intensive care units (ICU) and added CT scan imaging modalities. The hospital also has a dedicated trauma operating room, and added in-house coverage for trauma surgery, anesthesia, critical care, radiology and hospitalist programs. Other specialty services that will be available include neurosurgery, vascular, thoracic, plastic surgery, hand, face, and OB/GYN.
“In just three years, our medical staff and associates rose to the challenge of pursuing the goal of creating a Trauma Center for patients and families,” said Kyle DeFur, president of St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital, in a press release. “As this was the top priority for the St. Vincent Trauma Center team, the verification is a gold-standard testament that our provider partners have the confidence to send their patients to our health ministry during critical times.”
To ensure air transportation was readily available, St. Vincent Health arranged an affiliation agreement with PHI Air Medical creating the critical care transport brand — StatFlight. The partnership assists in the stabilization and transportation of trauma patients by air to St. Vincent or other advanced tertiary care facilities. St. Vincent StatFlight has five medical helicopters located in Anderson, Danville, North Vernon, Rushville and West Lafayette.
Last month, OrthoIndy announced that the OrthoIndy trauma team will provide care exclusively at St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital.
Physicians and nurses have renewed their advanced trauma certifications, completed trauma education and core courses, and participated in trauma lecture series.

Study reflects local hospital costs on par
It’s hard to say what’s worse — being hospitalized, or the bill that follows.
But in some places, that bill might be a bigger hit than others: Say, Monterey Park, Calif., for example, where an inpatient being treated for heart failure could expect to pay about twice the average between Madison County’s Community Hospital Anderson and St. Vincent Anderson Regional. -

Yard sale season means big business
Yard sale season is upon us, again.
In Ginnie Clevenger’s Pendleton neighborhood, it’s been a Pendle Hill homeowners’ association tradition since 1977, marked every year with a big banner and balloons tied to mailboxes. Saturday, between 15 and 20 homeowners had signed up to price-sticker their old clothes, video tapes, whats-a-whose-its and thing-a-ma-bobs, and spread them across their front lawns. -
