IU: Years before economy is restored

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana University economists believe it will take three to five years to restore the economy and reach full employment. Those predictions are among the key points in the 2010 economic forecast from the IU Kelley School of Business Outlook Panel. The researchers believe households are likely to continue being cautious with spending and small businesses will still be dealing with tight credit in 2010. The forecast is also calling for the national unemployment rate to peak above 10 percent, while payrolls add nearly 2 million jobs by the end of 2010.

Wishard construction set for March

INDIANAPOLIS —Demolition work begins next week now that voters in Marion County have approved plans for a new $754 million Wishard Hospital. In a Studio(i) interview, Marion County Health and Hospital Corp. He attributes the successful effort to pass a bond issue referendum to a “historic” coalition among business, labor and education leaders.

RV maker recalls hundreds of workers

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury-based Jayco Inc. has recalled or hired more than 200 production workers after “higher than anticipated levels of incoming orders.” The RV manufacturer says its backlog is the largest in more than two years. Lilly reducing sales force by 191

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Co. plans to layoff 191 salespeople throughout the U.S. by the end of the year. In a letter to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the pharmaceutical maker says the reductions are related to a sales force restructuring. The contracts of the affected employees were due to expire at the end of 2011, but there was some flexibility to change that date.
