Angie’s List announces expansion
INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis-based Angie’s List has announced it will be providing consumer reviews on custom and classic car specialists. The new division will offer service ratings in more than 100 categories. Auto restoration is the second niche service added to Angie’s List in the past two years. Earlier this year, the company added health care services with 50 categories.
IU: Years before economy is restored
BLOOMINGTON — Indiana University economists believe it will take three to five years to restore the economy and reach full employment. Those predictions are among the key points in the 2010 economic forecast from the IU Kelley School of Business Outlook Panel. The researchers believe households are likely to continue being cautious with spending and small businesses will still be dealing with tight credit in 2010. The forecast is also calling for the national unemployment rate to peak above 10 percent, while payrolls add nearly 2 million jobs by the end of 2010.
Vermillion County to increase work force
NEWPORT — Defense contractor Telic Corp. plans to establish a new operation in Vermillion County creating up to 500 jobs by 2010. The company will invest more than $1.2 million for an administrative support, manufacturing and development center at the former Newport Chemical Depot. Telic Corp. has another Indiana location in Crawfordsville.
Indiana out of running for Harley
INDIANAPOLIS —Inside INdiana Business has confirmed Harley-Davidson Inc. is no longer considering Shelby County for a manufacturing facility. The company has released a statement saying the list of alternatives for the current operation in York, Pennsylvania has been narrowed to a location in Kentucky. A company official says the motorcycle maker does not plan to “further explore” Indiana, or a site in Tennessee, “unless something unforeseen happens.”
Wishard construction set for March
INDIANAPOLIS —Demolition work begins next week now that voters in Marion County have approved plans for a new $754 million Wishard Hospital. In a Studio(i) interview, Marion County Health and Hospital Corp. Chief Executive Officer Matt Gutwein says planning meetings are moving into gear and people will start seeing construction work at the downtown Indianapolis site in March. He attributes the successful effort to pass a bond issue referendum to a “historic” coalition among business, labor and education leaders.
RV maker recalls hundreds of workers
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury-based Jayco Inc. has recalled or hired more than 200 production workers after “higher than anticipated levels of incoming orders.” The RV manufacturer says its backlog is the largest in more than two years. President and Chief Operating Officer Derald Bontrager says “this is the first tangible indication that the RV industry has turned the corner and can look forward to improved business conditions going forward.”
Lilly reducing sales force by 191
INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Co. plans to layoff 191 salespeople throughout the U.S. by the end of the year. In a letter to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the pharmaceutical maker says the reductions are related to a sales force restructuring. The contracts of the affected employees were due to expire at the end of 2011, but there was some flexibility to change that date.
