Purdue to cut $30 million
WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue University says it is facing a shortfall of $70 million over the next three years if state appropriations and general education fees do not increase.
President France Cordova has announced the institution wants to cut $30 million before the state’s next two year budget cycle begins. Treasurer Al Diaz says Purdue has already made across-the-board reductions, cut positions, curtailed hiring and withheld pay increases.
Company unveils expansion plans
CHURUBUSCO — Maxim Medical Services Inc. is expanding its operations and creating 51 jobs by 2012.
The medical equipment installer and repair company will invest more than $1.6 million to establish a light manufacturing center in an existing facility in Churubusco, about 16 miles northwest of Fort Wayne.
Indiana on Think Global ‘short list'
INDIANAPOLIS — A spokesman for the North American arm of Norwegian electric car manufacturer Think Global tells Inside Indiana Business reports that the
Hoosier state will be home to the company’s U.S. manufacturing operations are premature.
Brendan Prebo says Indiana, Michigan and Oregon are still in the running to land the plant. A news release from the company earlier this year indicated the U.S. facility would initially employ about 300 workers and produce up to 16,000 cars per year. Eventually, Think hopes to employ 900 and produce 60,000 vehicles.
Simon considers bid for bankrupt rival
INDIANAPOLIS — Simon Property Group Inc. has confirmed it is exploring the possible purchase of a rival shopping mall operator. Simon has hired an investment advisor and law firm, both based in New York, to help determine whether it should bid for all, or part of, General Growth Properties Inc. The Chicago-headquartered company filed for bankruptcy in April.
Berry Plastics to buy Maryland plant
EVANSVILLE — Berry Plastics Corp. is purchasing a Maryland packaging plant from a Danish company. Berry is paying approximately $82 million for Superfos Packaging Inc. in Cumberland, Md.
