INDIANAPOLIS -- The Herald Bulletin won 10 awards Saturday in the Hoosier State Press Association’s annual Better Newspaper Contest.
Competing in a category with newspapers of similar circulation size, The Herald Bulletin won two first places, three seconds and five thirds.
George Bremer won first place in the sports news/features category for an article about Highland wrestler Camden Eppert.
Brandi Watters won first place in business coverage for her story about an Elwood family’s struggles after a factory closing.
The Herald Bulletin’s collaboration with Anderson University journalism students, “Coping With Hard Times,” finished third in the prestigious community service category.
Other winners included:
- Rod Richey, second place, headline writing; second place, general column.
- Aleasha Sandley, second place, in-depth feature; third place, short feature
- Dave Stafford, third place, profile feature
- Staff, third place, coverage under deadline pressure; and third place, business coverage.
The awards were announced Saturday in Indianapolis.
