IndyCar, Brazil renew ethanol deal
INDIANAPOLIS — The Indy Racing League (IRL) has renewed a fuel supply agreement with the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association. The IZOD IndyCar Series will continue to use sugarcane ethanol to fuel its cars, including those running in this year’s Indianapolis 500.
Auto union boss: Indiana to benefit
MARION — United Auto Workers President Ron Gettelfinger believes the U.S. auto industry has proven it can compete with foreign-owned automakers. In Indiana last week, Gettelfinger pointed to major investments at General Motors plants in Fort Wayne, Marion and Bedford as evidence Hoosier autoworkers can compete.
Four Hoosiers on billionaire list
INDIANAPOLIS — This year’s Forbes list of the world’s richest billionaires includes four Hoosiers.
Cook Group Founder Bill Cook remains the richest person in Indiana, with an estimated worth of $4.5 billion. Hotel management company White Lodging head Dean White, Indianapolis Colts Owner Jim Irsay and Simon Property Group co-founder Herb Simon are also on the list.
Indiana harbors to be upgraded
MICHIGAN CITY — Steelmaker ArcelorMittal is pumping millions of dollars into improvements for its Burns Harbor and Indiana Harbor operations. The company says it is part of a $138 million investment in U.S. Flat Carbon operations. The upgrades at Indiana Harbor will expand product capabilities.
Energy deal struck with public trust
INDIANAPOLIS — After months of deliberation, Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard has signed a memorandum of understanding with Citizens Energy Group to transfer ownership and management of the city’s water and wastewater treatment utilities. Indianapolis-based Citizens is a public charitable trust, formed more than 100 years ago to operate like a nonprofit.
Elanco to expand European presence
INDIANAPOLIS — Eli Lilly and Co. says it is acquiring the European rights to a portfolio of certain Pfizer Animal Health products. As part of the deal, Lilly’s animal health division, Elanco, will acquire a manufacturing facility in Sligo, Ireland, currently used in the production of animal vaccines. All Sligo employees will be offered positions with Elanco.
