Owner: Michelle Paige opened the store after it had been closed for 11 years. Her parents, Isabelle and the late Charles F. Newsom, operated the business — then an electric shop as well as a locksmith — for 43 years.

Services: Newsom Locksmith is able to service all kinds of locks — home, business and vehicle, Paige said. The company will make house calls and respond to after-hours emergency calls.
Newsom can make keys for homes and automobiles including foreign models, she said. The business will rekey locks both at their Madison Avenue location or by going to the customer. Newsom will also assess home security and can install window and door alarms, Page said.
There are key accessories for sale at Newsom, which features a drive-up window.
In the owner’s words: Paige said she is excited about opening the family business after it had been closed for more than a decade.
“We thought we should get back in and open up shop again,” she said, surrounded by keys hanging on a wooden peg board on the back wall of the shop. “The Bible says to leave an inheritance for your children’s children. We are trying to do that and help create jobs for the community.”
Right now, Paige and her family are still refinishing a large portion of the building that used to house the electrical shop when the business was open before. After renovation, Paige hopes to rent that space out to another local business.
“We are so excited about opening up after all these years,” she said. “My goal is to make this a place for businesses to grow and for us to grow to the point where we can hire more people and create more jobs.”
