ANDERSON — The Anderson University men's basketball team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Franklin College 80-58 on Monday night at the Spurlock Center in Franklin.
The Ravens also defeated the Grizzlies earlier in the season at Anderson, sweeping the season series for the first time since the 2002-03 season.
Brock Morrison led the Ravens with 24 points, 13 rebounds and two assists, hitting 8-of-13 field goals and 7-of-9 free throws.
Phil Hogan had 18 points and two steals off the bench, making 6-of-7 field goals and 6-of-9 from the charity stripe.
Gabe Miller had 13 points, three assists, three steals and Andrew Jones added 12 points. Ty Riddle was also in double figures with 10 points, three assists and Tommy Strine chipped in with a 3-pointer and two rebounds in 11 minutes off the bench.
The Ravens shot 65 percent from the field, including 70 in the second half when it outscored the Grizzlies 40-30. AU shot 76 percent from 2-point range in the game, hitting 25-of-33 field goals. Franklin finished at 49 percent shooting, including 57 in the second half. AU made 5-of-13 from 3-point range and 15-of-22 from the free throw line compared to 2-of-13 behind the arc an 4-of-11 from the charity stripe by the hosts.
AU also had a 27-25 advantage on the boards. The guests also had the edge in points in the paint (42-32), turnovers (14-18), points off turnovers (29-16), blocks (2-1), steals (10-5) and bench scoring (21-10).
AU (19-2, 11-1 HCAC) hosts Rose-Hulman on Wednesday. The game will be carried live on the internet broadcast and WQME 98.7 FM from O.C. Lewis Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
Women's Basketball
The Anderson University women's basketball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Franklin College 73-56 on Monday night at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.
Lauren Leisure led the Ravens with 16 points, three rebounds and three assists, hitting 7-of-17 field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Ellen Thompson had nine points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and Courtney Prater added four points and a team-high nine rebounds off the bench. Hannah Wickard, Amy Wuestefeld and Ashley Wuestefeld all chipped in with six points.
AU (6-15, 5-7 HCAC) travels to Rose-Hulman on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
