Ball State faces sanctions for academic performance

INDIANAPOLIS — The Ball State basketball program faces a practice reduction penalty for its consistent inability to meet the NCAA's academic guidelines.

Ball State's average Academic Progress Rate score of 863 for the 2005-06 through 2008-09 school years was the lowest of any major college basketball program in the state, and fell well below the NCAA's threshold of 925.

The Cardinals also received a warning letter for having subpar numbers last year.

The IUPUI men's basketball program received a warning letter for falling below 925 for the first time. The program already is on probation.

Indiana State football had an APR of 922 and will lose a football scholarship for every player who leaves the school in bad academic standing next season, with a maximum of 3.87 scholarships lost.
