ANDERSON, Ind. —
The Indianapolis Colts were busy again on the free agent front Tuesday.
After signing backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck in the morning, the team agreed in principle to a deal with defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin in the late afternoon.
The 32-year-old has played 10 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints and San Diego Chargers. Franklin’s best years came in San Francisco from 2007-10 when he played under current Indianapolis defensive coordinator Greg Manusky. The 6-foot-1, 320-pounder made 59 of his 78 career starts during those four seasons.
Franklin made nine starts last season with the Chargers, playing on a defense coordinated by Colts head coach Chuck Pagano’s brother, John.
Franklin has primarily played as a nose tackle in the NFL and will add depth at a position that also includes Brandon McKinney, Martin Tevaseu and Josh Chapman.
The Colts announced the agreement on on the team’s website.
