ANDERSON, Ind. —
Anderson again has the Colts.
And it has a logo to go along with the team.
Anderson University has unveiled an emblem that will appear on non-commercial merchandise, marking its relationship with the Indianapolis Colts for training camp.
“It’s intended to be festive, to create excitement,” said Chris Williams, director of communication at Anderson University. “We’re planning to use it on materials being created right now.”
Those materials will include maps of Colts training camp, “Colts City,” as it is known on campus. The logo already appears on Anderson University’s Web page for Colts training camp (anderson.edu/colts).
But Williams said the logo may not be used for commercial purposes; all for-profit uses of the Colts’ horseshoe are controlled by the team. Instead, Williams said, Anderson is working with the Colts’ clothing maker, Main Gate, to create T-shirts bearing the logo that will benefit the cause of education.
“Shirts will be sold in Colts City during training camp that will have the training camp logo, and the proceeds from those sales will benefit the Irsay Scholarship Fund,” Williams said. “It’ll be a great boost for that scholarship fund and a tie-in that directly benefits the students.”
Colts President Jim Irsay created the scholarship in 1998 when the training camp first moved from Anderson to Terre Haute. On June 3, the Colts announced they would return to Anderson University for training camp from Aug. 1-18.
The logo prominently features the Colts’ horseshoe image, along with Anderson University’s conjoined A and U insignia. It was designed by X-L Marketing, a division of Indiana Media Group, which encompasses The Herald Bulletin and eight other daily and weekly newspapers in Central Indiana.
The logo was created with input from a committee and was approved by the Colts.
