ANDERSON, Ind. —
An Anderson man was in critical, but stable condition after being shot twice in the head Sunday afternoon, city police said.
As of late Sunday night, police had not made an arrest in connection to the shooting in the 1800 block of West 21st Street, but were pursuing leads.
Anderson Police Department spokesman Detective Joel Sandefur said that Antonio McMullen, 25, was transported to St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital before being airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.
Dispatch received a call about the shooting at 3:37 p.m. Sunday. Witnesses had called in about multiple shots being fired in the area beforehand and McMullen’s mother reported the shooting, Sandefur said.
When police arrived, they found McMullen bleeding from his head, Anderson police Sgt. Bill Casey said.
Officers immediately set up a perimeter and began sweeping the area for gun shells.
At the time, police were looking for two possible suspects and had received conflicting reports of a vehicle.
Shortly before shots were fired, witnesses reported seeing two men walk toward the house on 21st Street from Nelle Street, Casey said.
By 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Sandefur said police had identified persons of interest, completed interviews and were pursuing leads.
Casey said it was not immediately known what had caused the conflict that led to the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing.
