ANDERSON, Ind. —
Elementary students at Anderson Preparatory Academy raised more than $1,700 for the Anderson Police Department K-9 Division in memory of police dogs Magnum and Kilo, both killed in the line of duty.
Students in grades kindergarten through fifth brought in pennies for a penny war to raise the funds, said APA special education assistant Michelle Dreschler. She said K-9s and their officers had been out to the school before so they wanted to do something to help and that “the kids were so excited” to do so.
APA presented the check to the Police Department Tuesday morning at the school on 25th Street.
Also doing fundraisers were Anderson High School, raising about $600 with a sandal day and shirt sale that included a stand at a football game against Pendleton Heights High School in Pendleton; Alexandria-Monroe High School with a hat day and Elwood High School.
