MUNCIE — The Muncie Police Department will receive a new police dog, thanks to Ozzy Osbourne.

The Star Press reported today that the “Prince of Darkness” was convinced by his son, Jack, to supply the department with $10,000 to cover the cost of a new K9 officer. Jack appeared as a celebrity contestant in the “Armed & Famous” reality show, which was staged in cooperation with the department in 2006.

Sgt. Jay Turner said that the new police dog will replace a German Shepard named Rover, which will be retired this month after 13 years of service. The new K9 will undergo training at Vohne Licke Kennels in Denver, Ind.

Muncie police have two other K9 officers. The department has already chosen a name for the K9: Ozzy.
