ANDERSON — A teen male and two teen females — one seven months pregnant — were shot in the parking lot of an Anderson apartment complex Saturday night, according to Anderson police.

The teens were shot at Westvale Manor apartments, 2207 Fulton St., near the intersection with 22nd Street, at about 8:45 p.m.

Both teen females were taken to Saint John’s Medical Center, according to police, and officers said the 17-year-old girl, seven months pregnant, was flown by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital because of her condition.

The teen male was taken to Community Hospital. There was no definitive word on the conditions of the victims, and the teens had not been identified late Saturday. A motive for the shooting wasn’t immediately known.

The three teens were in a car with a second male teen when he and another male began arguing near the basketball courts, according to APD Detective Mitch Carroll. As the second male got into the car, the shooting began.

The car, an older-model Buick Regal, was damaged by several bullets and used to take the teens to Saint John’s. It was towed from a hospital ambulance bay so investigators could check it for evidence.

Police suspect an AK-47 assault rifle was used in the shooting. A K-9 unit was called to a wooded area behind Village Pantry, 1629 Raible Ave., near the road’s intersection with 16th Street, to search for a possible suspect. The area is northwest of the shooting scene.

No arrests had been made late Saturday.

Shortly after the shooting, officers placed crime scene tape around a large portion of a parking lot in front of a building at Westvale. In the lot was a pile of broken glass caused by the gunfire.
