ANDERSON — The first temporary guests at the Madison County Fire Rescue house won’t move until next week, said Anderson firefighter Skip Ockomon.
Minnie Roddy was reportedly too overwhelmed Saturday when firefighters arrived at the fire house to move her and her husband, Robert, into their new apartment at 18th and Fairview streets, Ockomon said. The couple’s moving day has been rescheduled for Tuesday.
The couple has lived in the house for two weeks after a fire destroyed a bedroom and bathroom in their own home. They are the first couple to live in the West Sixth Street house, which was built this year under Ockomon’s leadership.
He said Saturday that the department has also paid the first three months’ rent to help the Roddys transition after the fire that caused an estimated $20,000 to $25,000 in damages. And an Indianapolis firefighter donated furniture that will delivered Monday by Two Men and a Truck.
