ANDERSON — Michelle Ellis, 42, said Saturday she would be sure to keep her eyes on the road from now on, after her red Grand Am spun into a pole Saturday afternoon.
“I turned my head for a second – probably a couple of seconds,” she said. “Next thing I knew I was in the grass and I couldn’t control it.”
Ellis was driving west on 38th Street, just before Martin Luther King Boulevard, when she noticed Christmas decorations that she had just bought slipping out of their plastic bags.
She reached over to put the gifts back in the bags, causing her car to slip off the road.
Her car spun around and hit a pole, with the passenger door completely smashed in.
“Keep your eyes on the road at all times,” she warned other drivers, still shaken from the accident.
Luckily, Ellis said, she was the only person in the car.
Officers did not issue any citations.
