ANDERSON, Ind. —
Police have arrested an Anderson man in connection with a shooting Sunday afternoon that left the victim seriously wounded.
Anderson police arrested Marcus D. Jones, 29, of the 1800 block of Halford Street, early Monday morning on charges stemming from the incident, including a Class A felony robbery and Class D felony dealing in marijuana. He was being held in the Madison County Jail in lieu of posting $35,000 bond Monday night.
After being shot in the head twice, Antonio McMullen, 25, is recovering and now in stable condition at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Anderson Police Department spokesman Detective Joel Sandefur said.
No further details have been released as the investigation is ongoing.
It began Sunday when, at 3:37 p.m., dispatch received a call about a shooting in the 1800 block of West 21st Street.
Witnesses had called to report hearing multiple gunshots in the area beforehand, a nearby church had a parking lot full of cars, and when police arrived, they found McMullen bleeding from the head outside, Sgt. Bill Casey said.
An ambulance transported him to St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital and he was later airlifted to St. Vincent in Indianapolis.
Police immediately set up a perimeter and began searching for evidence. At the time, they were looking for two possible suspects.
Shortly before those shots were fired, witnesses reported seeing two men walk toward McMullen’s house from Nelle Street, Casey said.
McMullen’s mother was the one who actually reported the shooting, Sandefur said.
By late Sunday night, police had identified persons of interest, completed interviews and were pursuing leads.
