Correctional facility announces employee awards

PENDLETON, Ind. — The Pendleton Correctional Facility gave awards for 2012 at the annual staff assembly on Tuesday.

The assembly provides administrative personnel the opportunity to brief correctional facility officers on recent events at the facility and throughout the Indiana Department of Correction system, according to a press release from facility spokesman Neil Potter.

The program also allowed the facility to recognize staff through awards and achievements.

Bruce Lemmon, who was recently reappointed as commissioner of the Indiana DOC by Gov. Mike Pence, presented IDOC Commemorative Challenge Coins to three Pendleton Correctional Facility employees.

Officer John King was recognized for his military service, officer David Tesdal was recognized for his involvement in the facility’s “Purposeful Living Units Serve” program and officer Andrew Cole was recognized for his outstanding job performance as the facility’s supervisor of classification. Cole was also awarded as the facility’s acting assistant superintendent of re-entry, according to the release.

According to the release, officer Kathleen Simon won Employee of the Quarter, Capt. Michael Conyers won Supervisor of the Quarter and officer Robert Daugherty won Outstanding K-9 Handler of the Year.

Training supervisor Mark Mace, who retired Feb. 1, was recognized for 28 years of service at the IDOC. Mail Department secretary Mary Ann Higgs announced she would retire March 28 after 23 years of service.
