ANDERSON — The Madison County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, working with the Madison County commissioners and the Madison County sheriff, have reduced the travel restriction to a travel advisory for Madison County.
A travel advisory means all motorists should continue to exercise caution; however, conditions have greatly improved since Saturday. Highway crews have been working very hard to open up drifted roadways throughout Madison County, county officials said in the press release. There may be still be some isolated locations where travel is restricted to one lane due to drifted snow in rural portions of the county.
Residents of Madison County are encouraged to dig out nearby fire hydrants to ensure local fire departments can access water in the event of a fire. Buried fire hydrants can cost firefighters valuable time which will hamper their response. Prepare now, by digging out and making sure all nearby fire hydrants are visible and accessible from the road.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Madison County in advance of another approaching storm system Monday night into Tuesday. Residents should prepare now by stocking up on essential food, medicine and other staples in the event travel is restricted.
