ANDERSON — A man wanted on four charges of attempted murder for allegedly shooting a pregnant teen and two others surrendered to authorities on Tuesday.
Daquell Q. Jones, 19, Anderson, turned himself in at the Madison County Jail at about 12:45 p.m. Jones was being held on $250,000 bond late Tuesday.
Jones is charged with four counts each of attempted murder and battery by means of a deadly weapon. He’s also charged with aggravated battery and battery resulting in bodily injury to a pregnant woman.
The most serious charges, the attempted murder counts, are each punishable by 20 to 50 years in prison if he’s convicted. Jones could be arraigned on the charges as early as today.
Detective Mitch Carroll previously said in a news release that Jones was wielding an assault rifle when he opened fire into a car with four people inside at about 9 p.m. Saturday, May 23. He shot 18-year-old Nequana Durham, who is pregnant, and Antwaun Moody, 16, and Adrienne Jones, 16. All three are recovering. The fourth person, whose name was not released, was uninjured.
Investigators believe Daquel Jones was arguing with an unidentified man in the parking lot of Westvale Manor Apartments, near West 22nd and Fulton streets, shortly before the shooting. Jones fled from the scene on foot after firing the rifle and had eluded capture.
Detectives worked with state and federal investigators to locate Jones and bring him into custody.
Anderson police Sgt. William Casey previously said investigators suspected Jones had fled the state. He previously said detectives received tips in the days after the shooting indicating Jones may have fled to Kentucky or Alabama.
Casey, department spokesman, said Tuesday that detectives had not yet determined where Jones had been staying while he was on the run.
