Each Monday, The Herald Bulletin publishes “You Said It,” a compilation of readers’ comments from www.theheraldbulletin.com coupled with responses by the newspaper’s editorial board.
About a letter to the editor extolling the virtues of a Proverbs 31 woman and for criticizing feminism that encourages ungodliness toward family and moral values:
* “““Seriously? Blaming all divorces on women? You are exactly the kind of man that women need to be liberated from. A Proverbs 31 woman? No thanks. Find me a man who looks out for his wife’s well-being, is virtuous, can be trusted by his wife, is not foolish, is an asset to his wife in all areas of her life, is physically active, demonstrates good sense, has virtue, loyalty, industriousness, strength, wisdom, kindness, not wasteful and prudent with funds. ... good luck on that one!”
THB: Somewhere in this discourse, is a happy medium.
About the city receiving more than $1.5 million for its transit system, thanks to another round of federal stimulus:
* “What a monumental waste of taxpayer money. After 5-10 years, they will call the buses, vans and vehicles clunkers in need of another government bailout to replace them.”
THB: Let’s hope those in charge will consider hybrid or electric vehicles.
About Rep. Mike Pence addressing a town hall meeting and hoping that the health care bill will be scrapped:
* ““If Rep. Pence wants to scrap the health care bill, he should start by giving up all his health care benefits. Walk a mile in someone else’s shoes.”
THB: Not a bad idea; maybe we could get all our lawmakers, state and national, to take part.
About Doug Fletcher, Highland High School’s band director, receiving the Outstanding Bandmaster Award from Phi Beta Mu, a select, fraternal group of band leaders.
* “Congratulations, Mr. Fletcher, an honor well deserved for 25 years of stellar teaching.”
THB: A well-deserved accolade that comes as the future of band programs in ACS is up in the air.
