Local students serve as ambassadors of music in Europe
Local students joined others from around the state and took Hoosier music to an international stage this summer.

ACS recalls 46 teachers
Forty-six of the 163 Anderson school teachers laid off at the beginning of the summer will have jobs when school resumes. During a special meeting on Tuesday, the Anderson Community Schools board approved the recall of the teachers.

Urban League president says federal report has errors
The CEO and board spokesman for a local organization tasked with running a federal early learning program said Tuesday that a recent federal report had “a couple erroneous things in it.”

County Council approves putting ACS referendum on ballot
The second time around, the Madison County Council voted to certify a tax increase referendum for Anderson Community Schools to be placed on the November ballot. The vote though still wasn’t unanimous as Councilman Buddy Patterson voted against certifying the question, which would add an extra 55-cent tax to every $100 of assessed property value if passed by voters.

Federal review finds 10 deficiencies at Madison County Head Start
A federal review of Madison County Head Start has found the local Urban League Board of Directors deficient in 10 areas, including paying its president solely from the Head Start grant and inadequately keeping record.

South Madison can’t charge ‘pay to play’
The school board has chosen to forgo imposing “pay to play” fees on students this coming school year, but the board didn’t have much choice in the matter, according to South Madison board member Chris Boots.

Ruth Pritchett, an Anderson advocate for cancer research, saw a rockin’ idea when she visited a Delaware County Relay for Life event just before Madison County’s Relay for Life.

Carnival feels recession at 4-H Fair
Economists may be predicted a slow crawl out of the recession, but the carnival company at the Madison County 4-H Fair says the recession has affected business more this year than in previous years.
