4-H Fair: 10-Year Members

Each year, the Madison County 4-H Fair honors members who have been with various clubs for ten years. This year’s honorees are:

Zach Baldwin

Zach Baldwin, from the South Madison Odds & Ends 4-H Club, is the son of Jeff and Tylene Baldwin of Pendleton. During his 10 years in 4-H, Zach has participated in Fine Arts, Models, Rocketry, Genealogy, Electricity, and Photography. A recent graduate of Pendleton Heights High School, Zach was a member of National Honor Society, Beta Club, Pep Band, Jazz Band, and Concert Band. He was honored to be a member in the Top Ten Percent of his graduating class at Pendleton Heights. Zach is involved in his church youth group at First Church of the Nazarene in Indianapolis.

Jessie Lee Bohlander

Jessie Lee Bohlander is the daughter of Brenda and Martin Pannell of Summitville and Keith Bohlander of Elwood. In her 10 years in 4-H, Jessie has spent days working on projects in swine, sheep, rabbits, sewing, gift wrapping, reading, fine arts, and photography. Some of Jessie’s hobbies include horseback riding, swimming, fishing, and camping. As a 2009 graduate of Madison-Grant High School, Jessie plans to study Occupational Therapy at the University of Indianapolis.

Michael Brown

Michael Brown, from the Alexandria Ag 4-H Club, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Brown. During his 10 years, he has participated in Swine, Beef, Sheep, Horse & Pony, Jr. Leaders, Consumer Education, and Electricity. A recent graduate of Wes-Del High School, Michael plans to study Animal Science at Ivy Tech and continue his education at Purdue University. Upon graduation, he plans to pursue a career in the swine industry.

Jaki Brueggen

Jaki Brueggen is the daughter of Gene and Annie Brueggen of Anderson. She has attended and held leadership positions in Creation Corner and Hop-a-Long 4-H Clubs. Jaki has participated in Sewing as her 10-year project, as well as the Fashion Revue, Share-the-Fun, Rabbits, and Collections projects, and has enjoyed helping with judging and exhibit hall set-up and tear-down. A recent homeschool graduate of Faith, Hope, and Love academy, Jaki plans to study Nursing and Intercultural Missions at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Annamarie Bustion

Annamarie Bustion has been a member of the Creation Corner 4-H Club for 10 years. During this time she has completed projects in weather, scrapbooking, consumer clothing, and photography. She has also participated in “Share the Fun” solo vocal competitions. Annamarie is a 2009 graduate of Cathedral High School. She will attend Purdue University to study pre-pharmacy. Annamarie is the daughter of Paul and Barbara Bustion of Anderson.

Chris Carter

Chris Carter, from the K-9 dog club and Crossed Spurs horse club, is the son of Dr. and Mrs. John Carter of Alexandria. During his 10 years, Chris has participated in several 4-H projects, including dog, horse, art, & posters. A recent graduate of Madison Grant High School, Chris plans to study history at Ivy Tech.

Caitlin Evans

Caitlin Evans, of the Markleville All Star 4-H Club, is the daughter of Buck and Lana Evans of Markleville. Caitlin’s areas of interest in 4-H have been Photography, Swine, Recycling, Demonstrations, Gift Wrapping, Foods, Sewing, & Fashion Revue. She is a 2009 graduate of Pendleton Heights High School and will attend Anderson University this fall. She plans to pursue a career in film editing and production.

Betsy Floyd

Betsy Floyd, from the Blue Ribbon Aces 4-H Club, is the daughter of Brent and Carla Floyd. During her 10 years, Betsy has participated in sheep and foods. A recent graduate of Madison-Grant High School, Betsy plans to study at Indiana University.

Adam Garretson

Adam Garretson, son of Mark and Mary Garretson is a member of South Madison Odds and Ends and Pendleton Livestock 4-H clubs. Adam has shown sheep for 10 years, exhibited 20 Grand Champion projects and taken more than 30 projects to the Indiana State Fair. Some projects include Sheep, Swine, Forestry, Entomology, Wildlife, Woodworking and Photography. Adam received the Marvin Sheward Memorial 4-H Scholarship. Adam recently graduated from Pendleton Heights High School in the Top 10 percent of his class and received a summa cum laude diploma. He earned seven varsity letters in football and track. Adam will be attending Purdue University, majoring in Business Management.

Phillip Mark Hendrick

Phillip Mark Hendrick is the son of Phil and Mary Hendrick of Frankton. Mark is a member of the Frankton Ag 4-H Club and during his 10 years has participated in Beef, Showmanship, Rabbits, Photography and Junior Leaders. Mark is a recent graduate of Liberty Christian High School and plans to attend Ivy Tech Community College this fall to study Criminal Justice.

Lauren Hendricks

Lauren Hendricks, from the Grand Champions 4-H Club, is the daughter of Richard and Peggy Hendricks of Frankton. During her 10 years she has been active in Swine, Foods, and Gardening. A recent graduate of Frankton High School, Lauren plans to study nursing at Anderson University.

Melissa Hobson

Melissa Hobson, from the Pirateers 4-H Club, is the daughter of Jeffrey and Janet Hobson. In the 10 years of her 4-H experience, she has participated in projects such as Foods, Food Preservation, Microwave Foods, Beef, Consumer Education, Gardening, Arts and Crafts, and more. After graduation from Liberty Christian, Melissa will attend the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville to study biology.

Mark Loose

Mark Loose, from the Highlanders 4-H Club, is the son of Rob and Jane Loose. During his 10 years, Mark has been active in Public Speaking and was the 2007 State Fair Public Speaking Champion. A recent graduate of Anderson High School, Mark plans to study telecommunications at Ball State University.

Bonnie Parker

Bonnie Parker, of Elwood, is the daughter of Bob and Mindy Parker. She is a member of the Blue Ribbon Aces 4-H Club. While in 4-H, she has been involved in Foods, Photography, and Swine. Bonnie recently graduated from Madison-Grant High School and will be attending Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio to study history.

Haley Reif

Haley Reif, of the Creation Corner, K-9 Obedience, Fur and Feathers, and Madison County Rabbit Clubs, is the daughter of Craig and Tina Reif of Yorktown. During her 10 years, Haley has been active in Sewing, Rabbits, Photography, Fine arts, Foods and Dogs, showing in obedience, agility and showmanship. Haley has also competed in both Public Speaking and Share the Fun Contests. A recent graduate with the East Central Indiana Homeschool graduates, Haley plans to pursue a career in Physical Therapy and open her own photography studio.

Kyla Rhodes

Kyla Rhodes is the daughter of Rodney and Lisa Rhodes. She is a member of Alex Ag & Bit-n-Bridle. During her 10 years in 4-H, Kyla has been active in Beef, Swine, Rabbits, Goats, Sheep, Horses, Ceramics, Collections, and many other activities. Kyla graduated from Frankton High School this past May, and has completed her Cosmetology class at Alexandria’s “Heavenly Hair School of Cosmetology” and will be working in Noblesville.

Lance Rinker

Lance Rinker, of the Highland Ag 4-H Club, is the son of John and Lisa Rinker of Alexandria. During his 4-H tenure, Lance’s projects have included beef, computer, Jr. Leaders, sheep, soil & water conservation, soybeans, swine, and welding. This past year, Lance represented Indiana at National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia and National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C. Lance will be attending Butler University, majoring in pre-pharmacy.

Dana Runyan

Dana Runyan, from the Blue Ribbon Aces 4-H Club, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Runyan of Elwood. During her 10 years, Dana has participated in Swine, Photography, Fine Arts, and Junior Leaders. A recent graduate of Madison-Grant High School, Dana plans to study Public Relations and Intercultural Studies at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Brian Simmons

Brian Simmons, from the Blue Ribbon Aces 4-H Club, is the son of Ronald and Patricia Simmons. During his 10 years, Brian has participated in showing Swine. Brian is currently studying Criminal Law Justice at Ivy Tech. He plans to become a police officer and then go into Homeland Security.

Courtney Renee Sizelove

Courtney Renee Sizelove, from the Summitville Stitch & Stir Club, is being remembered this year. Courtney, who died Aug. 7, 2008, was the daughter of Randy and Renee Sizelove. During her 10 years, Courtney loved to do Photography, Home Environment, Fine Arts, Horse & Pony, Ceramics, Child Development, and Cake Decorating. Her family and 4-H are remembering Courtney and honoring her 10-year dedication to 4-H.

Cody Teeters-Bowyer

Cody Teeters-Bowyer, from the Highland Ag 4-H Club, is the son of Jama and Evan Highbaugh and Mark & Lori Bowyer. During his 10 years, Cody has participated in Swine, Sheep, Gardening, Genealogy, Electric, Horse & Pony, Forestry, Models, and Woodworking. Last year, Cody received his Eagle Scout. During high school, Cody competed in football, wrestling, and track. Cody is a recent graduate of Highland High School and plans on studying Secondary Education or Environmental Science at Hanover College.

Colleen Terry

Colleen Terry, of Alex Ag 4-H Club, is the daughter of Cliff and Kim Terry of Alexandria. During her 10 years, Colleen has participated in several projects including Beef, Swine, Sheep, Poultry, Horse & Pony and Cats.  A recent graduate of Alexandria-Monroe High School, Colleen has been accepted into the College of Agriculture at Purdue University.

Kimberly Werline

Kimberly Werline, from the Frankton Ag 4-H Club, is the daughter of Greg and Sharon Werline. During her 10 years Kimberly has been very active in Fine Arts, Foods, Wearable Arts, Sewing, and Scrapbooking. A recent graduate of Frankton High School, Kimberly plans to major in Graphic Design and minor in Business Management at Anderson University.

Elyse Werling

Elyse Werling, from the Lucky 4-H’ers Club, is the daughter of Duane and Kim Werling of Pendleton. During her 10 years, Elyse has participated in Scrapbooking, Child Development, and Photography.  She recently graduated from Pendleton Heights High School and plans to attend Indiana University next year to major in anthropology and minor in History.

    Forty-six of the 163 Anderson school teachers laid off at the beginning of the summer will have jobs when school resumes. During a special meeting on Tuesday, the Anderson Community Schools board approved the recall of the teachers.

  • Buddy Patterson mugshot County Council approves putting ACS referendum on ballot

    The second time around, the Madison County Council voted to certify a tax increase referendum for Anderson Community Schools to be placed on the November ballot. The vote though still wasn’t unanimous as Councilman Buddy Patterson voted against certifying the question, which would add an extra 55-cent tax to every $100 of assessed property value if passed by voters.

  • Federal review finds 10 deficiencies at Madison County Head Start

    A federal review of Madison County Head Start has found the local Urban League Board of Directors deficient in 10 areas, including paying its president solely from the Head Start grant and inadequately keeping record.
