SUMMITVILLE, Ind. —
On the last day of the Summitville Country Fair, those who helped put on the first large-scale fair the community has seen in decades said they are already looking forward to next year’s event.
“We are all already thinking about what we can do for next year,” said Melissa Bair, of Summitville, on Sunday. “We are making notes about what we can do to make it even better. But the turnout every night has been great.”
Bair’s two children have certainly enjoyed their mom’s involvement as it meant they’ve spent time at the fair every day since it opened Wednesday.
“It has been lots of fun,” Kaitlyn, 7, said excitedly. “I have rode rides and played games.”
She and Cameron, 5, also participated in the children’s pedal-pull. The fair featured several different versions of the tractor pull throughout the five-day fair.
Melissa Bair said it meant a lot to the community to have the fair back after it had been gone for so long.
“It is nice to have something for the kids here in town,” she said. “Bringing it back locally like it used to be is something we hope to continue to do.”
Ray and Betty Lane of Alexandria said they’d love to come back to the fair next year if Summitville continues to do it.
The couple has just started the “fair circuit” with their business — Lane’s Custom Wood Signs.
“It’s been good business for us,” Betty Lane said. “We are both retired and this is something we enjoy doing and is a supplement for our income.”
In addition to the last day of the midway rides, Sunday’s fair featured a hog wrestling contest.
