Vote: Top local concerts of 2011

The following list names some of the top concerts at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino in 2011. Which one is your favorite? Vote now!

REO Speedwagon

Singer Kevin Cronin promises to bring 30 years of REO Speedwagon sunshine to Anderson when the band kicks off Hoosier Park’s Coors Light Summer Music Track concert series on Saturday night.

And after all that wet stuff we’ve had lately, some sunshine and good old rock ’n’ roll music will be welcome.

Rick Springfield

Over the past few weeks, singer Rick Springfield has discovered he can’t do some things since his recent rotator cuff surgery. But the one thing that probably bothers him the most is not being able to play guitar.

And even though chances are slim that he will be playing by Saturday night, he promises a “bad-ass rocking” as he performs two sold-out sets in the Terrace Showroom at Hoosier Park.

Smokey Robinson

Anyone who listened to a transistor radio in the 1960s knows the lyrics from “The Tracks of My Tears” or “The Tears of a Clown” were sung and written by Smokey Robinson.

Robinson’s words are sweetly intoxicating.

The smooth interpreter, now 71, will perform at 7:45 p.m. today at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino as part of the Coors Light Summer Track Series.

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Lynyrd Skynyrd will conclude this year’s Summer Concert Series at Hoosier Park on Saturday evening.

“Walk-up tickets may become available based on cancellations, but with the popularity of Lynyrd Skynyrd the concert is nearly sold out at this point,’’ said Grant Scharton, director of public relations at Hoosier Park.
