YORKTOWN, Ind. —
Pendleton Heights reportedly didn’t miss many shots in practice this week.
The Arabians likely missed even fewer Friday night at Yorktown.
In a de facto Hoosier Heritage Conference championship game, the visitors made 24 of 34 attempts from the field and rolled to a 64-26 victory against the Tigers.
“I thought we did a nice job,” Pendleton Heights Mr. Basketball candidate Kellen Dunham said. “We came out focused. In practice all week, we were knocking in shots. That carried over to the game.”
Dunham and classmate Matt Wehner combined to score the Arabians’ first 21 points, and junior Brogan Gary essentially ended the game with a 3-pointer to start the second half that put his team ahead 33-13.
Yorktown (11-4, 4-1 HHC) scored 10 points in the first quarter, then combined for just nine in the second and third. Pendleton Heights (16-2, 7-0) buried the Tigers under an avalanche of 3-pointers, connecting on 9 of 11 attempts from behind the arc.
“The kids executed at such a high level tonight,” Pendleton Heights coach Brian Hahn said. “We got great shots, and then we made great shots. The kids played really well.”
Dunham led the way with 25 points on 11-of-16 shooting. He made 3 of 4 from 3-point range but primarily scored on aggressive drives to the basket.
“We just got a few breakways,” Dunham said. “And Parker (Aul) set some great screens to clear the way for me to drive.”
Wehner was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and finished with 12 points. Gary equaled Wehner’s point total and added a team-high seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals.
“Brogan was really good,” Hahn said. “But everybody played really well. This was one of those games where everybody contributed.”
The win completed a sweep of road trips to Rushville, New Palestine and Yorktown. Each game marked the Arabians’ first victory on those respective courts in school history.
“It really means a lot,” Dunham said of the team’s conference crown. “We’ve gotten some big wins throughout the season.”
Pendleton Heights, ranked No. 5 in Class 4A, has another big game right around the corner.
They’ll travel to Class 3A No. 1 Muncie Central (14-2) tonight. The Bearcats have a tall and athletic roster led by senior Indiana All-Star candidate Nick Osborne.
Muncie Central has won the past three meetings in the series, with the Arabians’ last victory coming in February of 2009.
“(Muncie Central) is a whole different game athleticism-wise and size-wise,” Hahn said. “We’re gonna have to play a whole different game.”

Arabians defend softball title
The Pendleton Heights softball team seemed determined Wednesday to both learn from the past and repeat the parts of it that it found favorable.
That combination resulted in a 7-1 victory over Greenfield and the 4A sectional championship.

Pendleton Heights survives round one
The bottom of Pendleton Heights’ batting order came up big Wednesday, and the Arabians survived to fight another day in this Class 4A baseball sectional.
Brandon Schnepp, Skyler Reis and Augdan Wilson — PH’s seventh, eighth and ninth hitters — combined to hit 6-for-8 with two doubles, four runs scored and four RBIs. That was enough to keep the Arabians one step ahead of upstart Connersville until a five-run sixth-inning rally broke open the 10-4 victory. -
