6 p.m.: Covenant graduates six Friday

ANDERSON — Classes of three students or less are common at Anderson Covenant Academy, so having six graduates in the Class of 2008 is a “bumper crop,” according to Principal Tim Cole.

Among the graduates is Aaron Brown, 19, who enrolled at Covenant Academy three years ago when his family moved back to Anderson.

Brown, two of his cousins and three other classmates will complete their education with the school today Friday.

“It’s been hard, actually,” Brown said Thursday.

Brown, the youngest of three kids, was born in Anderson but moved to Evansville with his family when he was six years old. His father, who was working as a church pastor, then moved the family to Houston, Texas and then to Linton, Ind., where Brown was homeschooled for a short time before starting at a small Christian school similar to Covenant Academy.

But when the family moved back to Anderson to be closer to Brown’s grandmother, some of his school records were lost. To compensate, Brown had to repeat the 10th grade at an accelerated rate.

Of the many school environments Brown has tried, he said he liked the small classes at Covenant Academy.

“You can connect more with the other seniors,” he said. “It’s actually kind of cool because graduation won’t last that long.”

Brown’s post-graduation plans include spending some summer days at church camp before beginning classes at Union Bible College in Westfield.

Brown said he’d like to work in a church, possibly as a youth pastor, but he said his college major is still undecided.

“It will probably either be in ministerial or music,” he said.
