GAS: Taxis try to stay affordable
ANDERSON — Randy Willis, owner of Anderson Taxi, is trying to keep his prices low, but the jump in fuel costs is making it difficult.
“It’s putting a lot of pressure on us price-wise,” Willis said, “but we’re doing the best we can to hold prices at current levels.”
Anderson Taxi might soon raise prices to meet price jumps in gas.
“We haven’t raised prices in order to make up for the difference in fuel costs, but we may have to eventually,” Willis said. “I’m thinking about that because it seems like they go up everyday. Any type of transportation company is going to be affected when price of gas doubles in more than a year.”
Willis said some taxi companies were looking for help from the government.
“There’s a lot of taxi companies around the country, and I think Indianapolis is one of them, looking for government to help subsidize them because of these increased fuel prices,” he said. “Taxi services are a necessary service in a community.”
Anderson Taxi has four taxis. Willis also owns Personal Service Limousine, which has three limousines.
“Ridership is about the same,” he said. “People are using taxis for basically the same reasons all year. We’re going to bite the bullet here and do the best we can to hold the line on prices. If gas prices don’t come down after July 4, we may have to make an adjustment in the fares.”
