— More than a week of holiday events make up the Festival of Trees at the Paramount Theatre Centre, Anderson, Saturday through Dec. 7. See the dancers from Ballet Floricantos (Nov. 30) or jive with jazz musicians from local schools (Dec. 2). The festival’s collection of decorated Christmas trees are on display every day of the festival, except Monday, Dec. 1. — Winterfest returns with a weekend of holiday activities in central Anderson. Downtown businesses and Anderson Indiana Main Street partner for entertainment, food and games for children. The party starts with the annual lighting of the Christmas tree. Begins Friday, Dec. 5, 4 to 9 p.m. with tree lighting at 6:30 p.m.
— The tradition of singing “Silent Night” while thousands of candles light Reardon Auditorium brings people back to Candles and Carols year after year. The concert is free with general seating. Friday, Dec. 5, 7:30 p.m., Reardon Auditorium on the campus of Anderson University.
— Get your pet’s photo taken with Santa and help the Madison County Humane Society. For $9.95 with your PetSmart Perks Card, get a 4-by-6 photo with collector frame and give $5 to help homeless animals. PetSmart, 4216 S. Scatterfield Road. Dec. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
— Ovid Community Church presents an all-new Christmas outreach production with “A Time for Christmas.” Watch as Bill, a workaholic and modern-day Scrooge, travels with the angel Bartholomew through 2,000 years of Christmas history to learn the importance and true meaning of the holiday. Dec. 5 and 6, 7 p.m.; Dec. 7, 6 p.m.; Ovid Community Church, 793 E. 600S, Anderson.
— Downtown Markleville comes alive for the town’s annual Christmas in Markleville event. Enjoy holiday craft shopping and a chili dinner before the tree lighting celebration at dusk. Saturday, Dec. 6, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Hardy Building, State and Main streets.
— See Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol” performed by close to 100 actors and musicians. Madison Park Church of God presents the tale for the 17th year, this time with an expanded orchestra playing the original score. New twists and surprises are added every year to ensure that the familiar story is never quite the same twice. Dec. 12-14, 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., Madison Park Church of God, 6607 Providence Drive, Anderson.
— Performers from across the area come together to tell one of the most popular Christmas stories ever when Anderson Young Ballet Theatre presents “The Nutcracker.” Friday, Dec. 19 and Saturday Dec. 20, 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 21, 2:30 p.m., The Paramount Theatre Centre. Comedian Harland Williams coming to Paramount
LOS ANGELES — Canadian Harland Williams was enjoying winter in Southern California. “It’s beautiful out,” said Williams, 47, familiar from roles in films like “Dumb & Dumber” and “There’s Something About Mary.” “A bit cold, but is 65 cold? I’ll take this cold any day, thank you.” Williams, whose Indiana performances have been exclusive to Crackers in Broad Ripple, will take the stage at the Paramount on Friday, April 2.
