Letter: Highland parents’ action takes courage

Highland parents’ action takes courage

I just finished reading The Herald Bulletin Feb. 6 editorial on “Why the School District Should be Unified, Not Split Apart.” The THB said essentially that the kids and parents just need to accept things the way they are and that trying to change things was simply not realistic.

No. That anger you reprimanded the parents for is exactly how things get changed. Good luck to all who are trying to do something instead of just lying down and taking more of the same. Thank God the THB wasn’t around during the American Revolution. The editorial staff would, no doubt, have admonished the founding fathers for trying to break with England.

Get with it, THB! The Anderson Community Schools system is broken and the school board and teachers’ union has a stranglehold on it. Parents have been trying to fix it for years and haven’t made any headway. The THB itself has pointed out all the problems with ACS and yet the problems only get worse.

Secession seems very reasonable to me. Good luck, parents. You are attempting something that takes great courage and love for your children.
