Highland efforts aid KCCA

The Killbuck Concerned Citizens Association wishes to extend both its gratitude and congratulations to the approximately 100 senior Highland High School students in the entrepreneurial component of teacher Michael Fox’s senior economics classes that donated the profits from their student-based company project to the KCCA.

During the 2006-2007 academic year, these fine young men and women, under the guidance of Mr. Fox, developed and marketed a specially packaged shirt whose design promoted the city of Anderson’s recent economic turnaround with the theme, “Anderson’s New Economy.” The group’s project included research and development, sale of corporate stock, sales and marketing and all expenses were covered by revenue yielding a net profit which the group elected to donate.

The participating students elected to donate the net profits from their entrepreneurial efforts to the KCCA, “as many of them understand the damaging effect the Mallard Lake landfill would have on the new, beautiful Highland campus environment.”

The generosity of these students will help enable the KCCA to continue its 28-year fight against the development and operation of a dump planned for a location a mere three-quarters of a mile from Highland High School and only a few hundred yards from Killbuck Elementary School.

We salute the hard work and resultant success of Mr. Fox’s students and hope their concern for the future of Anderson and Madison County residents, demonstrated by their generous donation, will inspire all our residents to support the KCCA’s efforts to block the development of the proposed dump.

William Kutschera
