Letter: Cut budget with council volunteers

We have educated citizens who would be willing to volunteer

Since we’re slashing Anderson’s budget, I’d like to suggest we start with Anderson City Council members’ expensive salaries, and make this a volunteer council. We have educated citizens who would be willing to volunteer (including myself). The present council members are each making over $13,000 annually (for working two hours each month). That’s a huge per hour pay scale.

They have raised the cost of trash pickup (which we already pay for through property taxes). Ten years ago, they raised sewer rates for separation of sewer waters (where’s that money?); now they have raised sewer rates once again. Would present council members volunteer their services? It’s their turn to do something for Anderson. Do they love this town as I do?

Come on, people, let’s cut the budget some more.
