Letter: Extra holidays were in lieu of raises

They doubled the cost of our insurance, then gave us a day off

I just read the editorial about the city giving too many paid days off from work. Before you folks start bad-mouthing the city workers, let’s get a few facts straight first. Those days off came at a cost to the city workers. I know because I was one.

The years we got the extra days was because the city did not want to give us a pay raise. Everyone else was getting a raise and we didn’t. They said we will give you an extra day off. Then they doubled the cost of our insurance, and to make us feel better again they gave us a day off. All of the days off we got was due to the fact that we had to give up something else for that.

So let’s make a deal. We will give you back all those days if you will go back and pay us for the wages that we lost. and then reduce our cost of insurance to what it was and refund the difference. The people at the paper need to know what they are talking about before they bad-mouth the city workers.
