Letter: Utility bills’ event flier questioned

I recently received my bill from Anderson City Utilities and was shocked to find an advertisement for a church function in the envelope. I was appalled. Several questions came to mind: 1) Why is the utility office favoring one church over others in Anderson? 2) Why did they spend time and labor and added cost to place this flier with the bill? 3) Can any church or nonprofit organization advertise through the utility office? 4) What about individually owned businesses? Will the utility company provide postage to distribute their advertisements? 5) The utility office is operated by the City of Anderson. Does this practice cross government and church lines?

I’m not a religious person and I’m not against any church or religious belief; however, I am against this kind of “in your face” advertising by a city utility company. I feel this activity should be stopped or should be open to any one who wishes to reach a mass audience with advertising.
