Letter: Let’s not fail to look out for each other

— As I write this I am sitting in California on vacation and wondering what has happened to the compassion of my fellow citizens.

On Saturday, July 24, my grandson was walking downtown in Anderson in the general area of Rax’s and was struck with sudden stomach pain strong enough that it doubled him over and put him on the ground. Now, I realize that Anderson is not busy on Saturday around noon, but come on now, it isn’t completely dead traffic wise.

Thank God he was still able to dial his cell phone and call his family for help. He had to have surgery Saturday afternoon and will be all right.

But Anderson, as a city, we have invited thousands of people from around the state to our city in the next two to three weeks. Can we try to look out for each other and our guests in our city and remember the stories from the Bible? We aren’t Los Angeles, New York or Chicago that see people lying in their streets all the time; this is Anderson, Indiana.
