The County Council voted to take $276,514 from the road paving fund to restore several positions that were eliminated by a previous council. I’ll say that again, from the road paving fund. This one of the dumbest actions I have seen in Madison County politics.
Does anyone out there have a road or a street that needs paving? Surely the people of the county cannot be in favor of this mismanagement of taxpayers’ dollars. This is another example of county officials thinking their function is to hire people instead of using as few people as possible to accomplish a task.
This action does away with the need for a wheel tax because our council does not properly use the money that is in the road repair budget.

Big Brother is listening. If you are too young to know where this came from, read George Orwell's "1984." Old George was just 29 years ahead of his time.

Letter: County did not need tax on transportation
Wheel tax! The straw that broke the back for many. Note the number who have been forced to file for bankruptcy and the number in foreclosure on homes.
- Viewpoint: Theatrics displayed in County Council's wheel tax vote I was present at the Madison County Council meeting on May 13 to discuss reinstating the wheel tax. I was both amused and amazed by the theatrics that transpired.
