Anderson Class of 1949 to mark 60th anniversary

ANDERSON — Anderson High School’s Class of 1949 will celebrate its 60th anniversary Friday and Saturday.

On Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m., an informal mixer will be held at the Madison County Shrine Club, 2419 White St. Videos of past reunions, big band music and 60 years of memories will be followed by a buffet.

At 9:30 a.m. Saturday, alums will tour the new Anderson High School, followed by a noon luncheon and possibly golf at the new Edgewood course. At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, class members will meet at the Shrine Club for dinner, entertainment and other surprises. A class picture will be taken. Reservations are required by Monday.

On Monday, Sept. 21, a bus trip and a tour of French Lick is planned for class members who would like to participate.

Chairing the 60th reunion committee are Ellen and Bob Ward. Other committee members are: Jim and Jo Alexander, Lou Ann Brown Campbell, Dick and Jan Davisson, Horace and Evelyn Chadbourne, Marie Gordon Brown, Faye Broadwater Vrydaughs, Marilyn Pettigrew, Sue McClintock Pfenning, Jane Burton McNeal, Joyce McNeil, Jack and Jean Moore, Frank and Joy Phelps, Melvin and Phyllis Shaul, Joann Todd Devore, Joann Poore Renner and Tom Renner, Forest and Jackie Todd, Bill and Ann Hardacre and Barbara Tribbet VanMeter.

Of the original 467 graduating class members, 178 are known to be deceased. The committee is still searching for information about: Mary Elizabeth Alford, John Robert Alt, Phyllis Councellor, Roberta Cox, Aubrey C. Hamilton, Frances Glenn Hartzell, Anne Jean Hudson, Doris Land Malaguara, Evelyn Livingston Anderson, Jack Myers, James A. Pennington, Frank Perry Stevens, Charles William Thompson, William O. Wallace, Richard Ward, Frederick Earl Weathers, Fletcher King Williams, William “Billy Cody” Williams and Clifford Wood.

The AHS 1949 Ladies will continue meeting for lunch at 11:30 a.m. on the third Tuesday of every month at the Madison County Shrine Club, where plans are continued for upcoming class activities. All ’49ers are invited to attend.
