ANDERSON, Ind. —
Are you a super fan of all things Super Bowl?
Residents wanting to be a part of the super celebration have another opportunity to do so by visiting Mounds Mall to get an up-close look at one of 33 NFL franchise-themed Indy cars. The Minnesota Vikings car, along with two vintage race cars from Anderson Speedway, a Miller Lite NASCAR Cup Series Race Car and go-karts from the Anderson Sertoma Mayor’s Cup, are on display in the center court of the mall through 5 p.m. Sunday.
The car, along with the other vehicles, will be on display during the mall’s normal operating hours: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
“When we first learned that Anderson would be a Super Celebration Site, we wanted to be sure that Mounds Mall was a part of the celebration,” mall marketing manager Braun Roosa said. “We wanted to offer a second family-friendly place for area residents to come and be a part of the exciting Super Bowl festivities.”
While the car will be on display throughout the weekend, Saturday’s Indy Super Car Family Day will feature several special events hoping to get families involved in the Super Bowl festivities, said Dennis Ashley of D Ashley Design and Events, event chairman of the Madison County Super Bowl committee.
The Family Day begins at 10 a.m. and includes the opportunity to get a picture taken with the Vikings car, an interactive NASCAR track, the “over the pit wall tire changing simulator” and an appearance by Rupert Boneham of the reality TV show “Survivor.”
Free cotton candy will be available while supplies last for children, and participants can register for some of the $500 worth of Indianapolis Colts merchandise that will be raffled Sunday evening. Residents can register to win through 5 p.m. Sunday at the mall’s center court, where the items are on display.
Dan Bock of Anderson came out to the mall with his camera snapping pictures of the Vikings car from several angles. He’s not much of a Vikings fan but said he thought it was great to have the vehicle there.
“I enjoy Indy cars, and it is exciting to have one of the NFL cars here,” he said. “It isn’t the Colts, but hey, it is still neat.”
Robert Luse and Ross Orr of Anderson didn’t know about the vehicles ahead of time.
“I saw that the Indy cars were all up in Indianapolis, and I think it is neat for us to have one here so we can see it up close,” Luse said, snapping a picture of the car with his cell phone.

Getting Together: Silence not golden for this library program
Certain rules govern almost all libraries: be quiet, don’t mar the pages and absolutely no food or drinks on the premises. But a small group of patrons wait until after hours, lock themselves in the back room of the Alexandria-Monroe Public Library, eat popcorn, drink soda and loudly scoff as they watch bad movies.
