ALEXANDRIA, Ind. —
Madison County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two Alexandria residents on charges of animal cruelty Thursday evening.
According to Sheriff Ron Richardson, Sharon Frye, 35, and John Frye, 66, were arrested for abusing horses at their home in the 12000 block of North 300 West.
Richardson said his department received a number of complaints about the alleged mistreatment of horses there. After sending an officer to the residence to take pictures, Richardson contacted the Indiana Veterinary Office and asked officials there to inspect the horses.
According to Animal Protection League President Maleah Stringer the horses were in “horrible” condition. Two of the Fryes’ four horses were removed from the property after state veterinarians finished their inspection. The Animal Protection League assisted the Sheriff’s Department in transporting the horses from the property.
Due to a lack of suitable facilities in Madison County, the horses are being housed by the Hamilton County animal control officer. The Fryes were being held on bond.
Sharon Frye was also charged with resisting law enforcement after Richardson said she attacked two deputies during the arrest. He said Sharon struck one officer in the face with her fist, at which point she was subdued with a Taser. However, Sharon continued to claw at another officer with her fingernails.
Both Sharon and John Frye were transported to the Madison County Jail on a $3,000 bond. According to jail records, the Fryes have posted bail.

Getting Together: Silence not golden for this library program
Certain rules govern almost all libraries: be quiet, don’t mar the pages and absolutely no food or drinks on the premises. But a small group of patrons wait until after hours, lock themselves in the back room of the Alexandria-Monroe Public Library, eat popcorn, drink soda and loudly scoff as they watch bad movies.
