Updated venue draws headliners

Hoosier Park introduces redesigned outdoor concert venue

ANDERSON, Ind. — REO Speedwagon isn’t the only thing kicking off Hoosier Park’s Coors Light Summer Music Track concert series tonight.

The fully redesigned and extended outdoor concert venue is sure to be a crowd pleaser, according to Grant Scharton, director of public relations for Hoosier Park.

“I think what sets us apart from other venues is we have an absolutely high-grade stage,” he said.

Adam Kallick, events and entertainment manager for Hoosier Park, said the 45-foot by 45-foot, load-bearing stage will not only add to the audience’s experience but make the best experience for the performer as well.

“The addition of green-room space allows us to accommodate performers and get the bigger headliners,” Kallick said.

The expansion was made possible by utilizing a green area located behind the casino.

“It was kind of a wasted area. We had it paved,” he said. “It let us push the stage back and allow for more tents and seats.”

The paved area extends behind the stage for semi and bus parking, creating an added convenience to performers.

Custom VIP party decks were built to the left and right of the stage.

“They are elevated with cocktail tables and drink service,” Kallick said. “It adds a new VIP element to it.”

Because the stage was pushed back, the 3,900 plus seats can be flexed depending on the size of the concert. Kallick added that the additional space creates a more comfortable seating arrangement for concertgoers.

With the redesign came an emphasis on safety. Kallick said. Conduit was placed under the asphalt to reduce tripping hazards.

“Often times at concerts, there will be covers over the cords,” he said. “This allows us to run the cable from the stage to the front of the house underground.”

Most of the seating and equipment for the concert venue will remain intact, said Becky Young. However, to ensure the safety of the horses while they race, certain components will be taken down. The stage, for example, is raised the day of the concert.

Young, Hoosier Park’s director of marketing operations, said four different dining options will be available to patrons.

“All food and beverage is moderately priced compared to Verizon. The VIP tickets come with a few drink tickets,” she said. “We are making it interactive with the crowd. We just want to make it fun for the crowd at a concert on a summer night.”
